N&W 1218 is a preserved steam locomotive.

BiographyEdit

1218 was built in 1943 for mainly freight work, this engine had a huge significant historic place. It had more tractive effort than UP 3985, and could go faster than it (hence it was preserved).

The engine was later retired, then brought back into service to work alongside N&W 611. Both engines became popular attractions, but like 611, 1218 was sent to Roanoke, Virginia for static display, where it currently is today.

Restoration?Edit

People for years have been trying to get 1218, like 611, back into service. But the estimated costs are so great it would be very expensive to work it just for a day.
